The Hamilton Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized individual who enjoys working with the public, and planning events. This individual will be trained to perform regular library tasks along with planning, publicizing and implementing a wide range of programs for children, teens and adults throughout the year. Must be able to work independently, deal with multiple on-going projects, and prioritize tasks. Computer skills and proficiency in using Microsoft Office & Google programs is required along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with children and planning events is a high priority. No previous library experience required.
This is a part-time position. The schedule is somewhat flexible but will require some morning hours, after school and evening hours and at least two Saturdays a month.

Qualifications:
High school diploma, some college experience preferred, or any other equivalent as approved by the director. Through knowledge of the alphabet and competence in spelling and arithmetic is essential. Keyboarding and computer skills are necessary.
Job Summary:
Responsible for performing routine clerical duties within the library and assisting library staff. Assists students and patrons with locating information, stocks shelves, and checks out books and materials. The person holding this position participates in all library operations as necessary to ensure high levels of service to the community and has responsibility for other duties as assigned by the director.
Primary Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Director
Understands and effectively uses standard library materials, including the online catalog and electronic resources.
Handle interlibrary loan requests.
Prepare invoices.
Code library materials.
Order and process new materials and equipment.
Stocking, sorting or shelving items.
Fax or make copies for patrons.
Mend damaged books.
Prepare books for binding.
Process and maintain periodical files.
Assist students with locating information.
Help patrons locate print and non-print resources.
Check books in and out using computer system.
Keep accurate records of overdue and unreturned materials.
Process fines and accept payments.
Patrol library and ensure rules are being followed.
Train staff to use an online catalog.
Provide assistance with multimedia use.
Register new patrons and issue library cards.
Communicates staff and public concerns to the supervisor.
Attends local, state and national library meetings as requested
Maintains familiarity with policies and procedures, communicates these to patrons and sees that they are implemented.
Represents the library in the community and promotes library services when appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: While some tasks can be handled at a desk, other tasks will require being up and moving around regularly.
Staff should be able to
Stand for prolonged periods of time.
Climb multiple flights of stairs.
Kneel, squat, climb step-ladders to shelve items.
Lift above head.
Lift/carry 20+lbs.
Reasonable accommodations can be made for staff members, with the exception of using the stairs. Our building is NOT handicap accessible.
