Hamilton Public Library
Trustee Meeting
March 18,2014
The Board of Trustees of the Hamilton Public Library met at 6:30 pm on March 18,2014 at the library. Those present were Sharon Anderson, Katie DellaVedova, Wanda Hansen, Cicily Knowles, John Kolditz, Jim Noble, John Phillips, Dan Reinhardt, Bob Schneider and Librarian Nancy Denton.
The meeting was called to order by President Dan Reinhardt. New member John Phillips took his path of office.
Minutes
Kolditz moved and Noble seconded a motion to accept the February 18th minutes. Motion carried.
Bills
Hansen moved and Phillips seconded a motion to pay the March bills. Motion carried.
Reports
Friends of the Library: In the absence of a representative, Denton reported that the Friends have sufficient funds to purchase 1-2 computers for the children's department pending the approval of a user policy by the board. The Trivia night has been cancelled and the Friends are exploring other fund raising options. They plan a book sale during the city wide garage sale.
Finance: the library has no cd's maturing. The general fund has sufficient funds, so no funds were transferred.
Librarian: Denton reported the Science Fair is being held on March 22nd. The library will be participating in the Big Read, with the featured book being Love Medicine and a discussion is scheduled for April 10th. On April 14, there will be a talk about the native American calendar followed by a craft for children. An open house will be held on April 17 with a presentation on Native American drums to celebrate National Library Week.
Word has been received that the library was awarded $3688.75 in per capita grant money. These funds are earmarked for the purchase of e-readers.
Denton presented a quote for Windows 8.1 operating license for 8 library computers. Noble moved and Phillips seconded a motion to purchase the Windows upgrade from Dell for $474.32
Denton recommended that an iPad package on which she received a quote be considered for next year's budget.
Denton had checked with other city departments regarding who they used for computer tech support. Several were pleased with PC Tech. The library will use the businessto begin the begin the new Windows operating system on a couple of computers adn will evaluate their service.
Denton informed the board that all the florescent lights and ballasts have been replaced and that some of the light switches have been replaced resulting in teh large building maintenance expense shown on this month's bills.
Building and Grounds: The city forwarded a quote for a sign for the library parking area. It was suggested tto look locally for a post for the sign to reduce the shipping on the quote.
Old Business:
Reinhardt, Kolditz and Knowles have been working on the budget request. Various line items will be adjusted. Kolditz moved and Schneider seconded a motion to submit a request to the city for a 5% increase , or about $87, 640 for next year.
