Hamilton Library Board of Trustees Meeting
May 15, 2012
The Board of Trustees of the Hamilton Public Library met at 6:30 p.m. on May, 15 2012 at the Library. Members present were: John Kolditz, Cevin Cox, Cicily Knowles, Katie DellaVedova, Dan Rheinhardt, Jim Noble, Sharon Esterday, Nancy Denton and Carole Buerkiln. Guest: Nancy Gibson.
The meeting was called to order by President Dan Rheinhardt.
The board was introduced to Cevin Cox and he took the oath of office.
Minutes
The minutes were amended to read that Jim Morris moved and John Kolditz seconded that the closed session end and then Jim Morris moved and Cicily Knowles seconded that all employees receive a 2% raise. Motion carried. John Kolditz moved and Katie DellaVedova seconded that the minutes be approved with this change. Motion carried.
Bills
John Kolditz moved and Jim Noble seconded that the bills be paid. Motion carried.
Reports
Friends of the Library: In partnership with the Coalition, Friends of the Library have selected September 8th for a dance to be held at the Sullivan Auction House.
A book sale will be held in conjunction with the Hamilton City Wide Garage Sale.
A letter will be sent to the Kiwanas requesting more funds. A kit for the utility building is being considered. The building will have electricity. The project is moving forward and should be completed before Fall.
Finance: No CD’s are maturing. $10,000 will be moved from money market #710 to the General Fund. Cicily Knowles moved and Sharon Esterday seconded. Motion carried.
Librarian’s Report: It may be possible to hire a computer technician for four hours a week. Candidates from Carl Sandburg College may be available.
June is Reading Month, with prizes.
In July, the library will have Fitness Bingo. The Marine Bank and other banks will donate money for the children’s books. Donations from the community will buy coupons to be given away.
Katie DellaVedova will provide playground equipment and a tent for the book sale day and Fitness Bingo.

In the Hamilton Public Library Board Constitution Article III, Section 4, the wording “Board of Directors” will be changed to “Board of Trustees.” Jim Noble moved and John Kolditz seconded. Motion carried. In the section under Personnel Policies: Recruitment, Appointment and Registration, the hiring of Library employees are to be recommended by the Head Librarian and approved by the board. This reflects no change in the 1992 policy.
Public Relations
No report.
Buildings and Grounds
Dan Rheinhardt and John Kolditz attended a city committee meeting and were urged to ask the Kiwanas to pay for the gravel for the library parking lot. The area will be measured and it will be determined what type of gravel is needed and how it will be maintained. W.L. Miller might donate gravel if approached. Consider requesting the alley adjacent to the parking lot to be made one-way.
Trees and bushes will be selected and planted by volunteers.
Old Business
The Endowment Fund was reviewed. Nancy Denton proposed that Memorial Fund money be used for a new table and chairs for the meeting room. Also, a fire-proof cabinet should be considered.
New Business
Officers for the 2012-2013 year were elected. Officers are Dan Rheinhardt, president, John Kolditz, vice-president, Carole Buerkin, secretary and Cicily Knowles, treasurer.
